Home: Machanical Grandfather Clock Movements
Learn about machanical grandfather clock movements* A grandfather clock work well only provided they stand on a flat surface. This is simple but it is all important. When positiioning the grandfather clock flush against the wall you might find that the rug is not uniformly thick. Or possibly the flooring lacks uniformity next to the wall. If the clock tilts towards any side it is important to alter the surface so that it stands vertical. * Clock Pendulums have front and back sides you can tell apart. The pendulums front is generally the the polished face. The grandfather clock pendulum should hang free from all sides of the case. If it hits the case perhaps it means that the tower is not really vertical. * The weights that drive the clock should stand free of impediments. They should impinge on the pendulum or the casing as they fall. * When you start the pendulum moving check it out for a steady tick tock sound. The sound should be unvarying. If the ticking sound is irregular that may be because the clock is not placed on a level surface. Try out some experiments and make changes as necessary. * When modifying the time do not turn the hands of the clock towards the back by more than a few minutes. Never shift them back across the number twelve. It is alright to turn the hands of the clock forward. When moving over the twelve o clock mark hold on till your clock has completed striking the bell at the hour mark before you go on. * If the grandfather clock gains or loses time alter the linear dimensions of the pendulum. Lengthen the pendulum to pare down the speed of the clock. Decrease the pendulum length to have the clock pick up pace. If you are unsure you can set up the long case clock ask the dealer to help you. Enjoy the atmosphere of magnificence the grandfather clock lends to your house!
