When placing the longcase clock next to the wall you might discover that the carpet or other covering thickness is not the same everywhere. Or maybe the the floor is not even at the point where it meets the wall. If the case is leaning in one direction or the other you have to compensate for it. * Longcase Clock Pendulums have front and back sides that are different. The face of the pendulum is generally the the flat side. The pendulum and bob should stay without touching any part of the case. If it strikes against the walls of the case perhaps it means that the clock lists towards one side. * The set of weights that power the mechanism should stand free of impediments. They should not be touching the pendulum or the clocks sides during their descent. * When you get the pendulum going check for a steady ticking sound. The ticks should be unvarying. If the ticking sound is irregular it is often because the case stands on an uneven surface. Try out some experiments and adjust as required. * When changing the time do not turn the hands of the longcase clock towards the back further than a few minutes. And under no circumstances move the hands backwards past the mid night mark. It is okay to shift the hands forward. When running them across the number twelve wait till the clock has completed striking the bell at the hour mark before going forward. * If your antique clock loses or gains time change the linear dimensions of the pendulum. Increment the length to pare down the speed of the clock. Shorten the pendulum to to make the clock go more quickly.
