Tips on installing a grandfather clock

Putting up a beautiful grandfather clock in your household takes care. Else you may end up damaging it. Here are some of what you need to look into.

* A pendulum clock always need to be set up on a flat ground or surface. This is a simple point but it is all important.

When adjusting it to stand in front of the wall you may ascertain that the floor covering or rug is not uniformly thick. Or maybe the flooring lacks evenness at the wall.

If the clock lists in one direction or the other it is critical to get it standing vertically.

* Pendulums have distinct front and back sides. The front end is usually the the flat highly polished side.

The pendulum of the clock swing freely without coming into contact with any side of the case. Should it collide with the walls perhaps it means that the tower leans to a side.

* The block of weights that supply the clock with power should stand clear of the pendulum and walls. They should not brush against the pendulum or the sides of the clock casing as they fall.

* When you initiate the pendulums motion listen carefully for a constant ticking sound. The beat should be occuring regularly.

If the sound is not regular it is often because the surface is not horizontal. Try out different positions and make required alterations.

* When you adjust the time do not shift the clock hands back more than a few minutes. And certainly never run them backwards beyond the twelve mark.

It is fine to shift the hands forward. When running them past the mid day mark hold on until your clock is through with striking the hour before you proceed further.

* If the clock goes too fast modify the linear dimensions of the pendulum.

Add to the pendulums length to pare down the speed of the clock. Shorten the length to to quicken the clock.
